Private Island

An anonymous local architect challenged us that he "simply wanted the best pool on the west coast, period" for his client on this private island in BCs west coast waters. The result is the most adventurous and aesthetically pleasing natural pool ever built. The excavation revealed a natural valley in the underlying bedrock which became the jump-off point for the cascading natural spa. A large upper spa, hidden from the pool below, overflows over the entrance to a mysterious and cozy 7' x 11' grotto spa on the level below. The waters flow under a Japanese-style bridge into a 50m infinity-edge lap-pool that looks out on the Pacific ocean below. Using as much of the naturally exposed rock as possible, the project blends seamlessly into the natural environment. The area was previously unused and has now been transformed into just what the designer requested.
